Understanding the AIOU Grading System
The "Conflated Marks" Formula
Your final course score is a mix: 30% from your assignments and 70% from the final exam. This weighted average is the foundation of your grade.
How to Pass a Course
To pass, you need at least 40% in the final exam and an overall combined score of 50%. Meeting both criteria is essential for success.
Final Exam Reappear (FER) Policy
If you score below 40% on the final exam, you can apply for a reappear exam. AIOU offers multiple chances to pass without re-registering for the entire course.
Programs Covered by the GPA System
AIOU uses a dual grading scheme. While some older programs may use a traditional letter grade system, the modern GPA/CGPA system is applied to most current degrees. According to official documentation, this calculator is accurate for students enrolled in Associate Degree Programmes (like BA, B.Com) and other programs from the Autumn 2021 semester onwards. This includes many Bachelor's (BS) and Master's programs. Yes, It is valid in 2025 as well.
How to Calculate Your GPA Manually
While our tool automates the process, understanding the formulas can help you track your progress. Here’s how the calculations work based on the universal weighted average method.
Semester GPA Formula
The GPA for a single semester is the sum of the grade points earned in each course (multiplied by their credit hours), divided by the total number of credit hours for that semester.
Cumulative GPA (CGPA) Formula
The CGPA represents your overall performance. It's calculated by taking the total grade points from all your semesters and dividing by the total credit hours you've completed.
Why Our Calculator is the Most Accurate
While AIOU doesn't publish an official step-by-step formula, they provide all the necessary components. We built this tool based strictly on the official AIOU documentation to give you the most reliable results possible. Our calculator uses the university's detailed, granular marks-to-grade-point conversion table (shown above), not a simplified version. This ensures the GPA you see here is as close as possible to what will appear on your official transcript.
